Changed My Latitude (Official Music Video) by Dearg MacTavish - a coastal country song about trading Buffalo Southtowns lake-effect snow for boat life on Florida's Nature Coast.
I grew up where the storms come in sideways off Lake Erie: Route 5 in the Southtowns, ice on everything, a fish camp on Chautauqua, deer season in Cattaraugus County. These days home is a sailboat on the hook in Kings Bay, Crystal River, with my blue merle Collie, Winter, barking at the sea birds every sunrise. This one is about the thousand miles in between. I didn't leave that old life behind. I just followed the water.
I'm a digital artist: I write every lyric and build these songs with my own voice. Crafted with heart, from the lake to the Gulf.

LYRICS - Changed My Latitude
Verse 1
I grew up where winter storms come in sideways
Off Lake Erie, paintin’ everything in ice and white
Where the wind’ll rattle every old screen door
And a cold night means you’re stayin’ inside
But we’d still throw a line when the ice broke
Still chase that sunset down a two-lane road
There was always somewhere past the next hill
Somewhere that wild heart wanted to go
Pre-Chorus
Then one day I traded frost for sunshine
And found a whole new kind of blue
I still get a hint of that north wind
Every time I feel those old roads echoing in the dark
Chorus
From Southtowns snow bands to a trade wind breeze
From that old fish camp and deer season to a boat on the hook in a bay
From casting lines in northern water
To chasing blue where the sand meets the sea
From snow on the dock to salt on my skin
From back county roads to chasin’ an island dream
I didn’t leave that old life behind
I just followed the water... and changed my latitude
Verse 2
Now the mornings smell like saltwater
And the palms start movin’ when the breeze rolls in
I’ve traded snow tires for dock lines
And a heavy coat for a worn-in crooked grin
There’s spring water clear as a window
Mangrove shadows and a Gulf sunset
And somewhere beyond that horizon
There’s another little island I ain’t seen yet
Pre-Chorus
Yeah, I still know the sound of a howlin' north wind
Still remember what those winters can do
But somewhere between the lake and the ocean
I found out blue comes in more than one hue
Bridge
Give me a chart, a little open water
A setting sun and somewhere to go
Drop that anchor when the sky turns golden
Let the warm wind tell me what I already know
You can change your latitude
You can cross a thousand miles
But that restless kid who chased the horizon
Still wakes up with that same old smile
Outro
Yeah, I changed my latitude
But I didn’t change who I am
Still chasing water, still chasing sunsets
Still looking for the next place to drop the anchor
From Southtowns snow bands
To trade winds
I just follow the water to my next adventure
