Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City
September 7, 2026
Reaffirming the Administration’s commitment to protecting communities through stronger infrastructure, improved waterways, and long-term flood mitigation measures to build a safer, more resilient and flood-ready Philippines, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. inspected the Marikina River Linear Park in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City on September 7, 2026.
During his inspection, President Marcos Jr. interacted with the Estero Rangers as they collected trash and other waste along the river. He was also briefed on the ongoing construction of the 11-kilometer Marikina River Linear Park, which will feature urban green spaces that will serve as a bioshield, a localized flood buffer, and a natural cooling area. The Park will also help prevent illegal waste dumping by providing a physical barrier, as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen flood mitigation and create safer, more sustainable communities.
As a low-lying area vulnerable to flooding, Marikina City continues to strengthen community-based efforts to mitigate the effects of heavy rains and rising water levels, especially during the rainy season.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has implemented various interventions in Marikina City, including upstream impoundment and reforestation initiatives, installation of trash traps and emergency estero cleanups, validation of urban green spaces and biodiversity inventories, and continued support for improved solid waste management.
