Andy is a qualified pilot. He used to fly to Australia three or four times a year. And until this week, he hadn't set foot on a plane since February 2020. Jules has booked him flights to London. She's booked him flights to Jersey. Every single time, he's found a reason not to get on. Quite an expensive habit, as she likes to point out. So when Jules flew back from 12 days with family in Jersey and landed in Madrid, it was finally time. A 13 minute train to our tiny local airport. Seven gates. A 45 minute flight. And one very grumpy man remembering everything he left the UK to get away from. Queues. Screaming kids. People leaving water in their bags at security. Don't get him started. We had plans to spend two days in Toledo, but with the wildfires hitting Spain this summer it wasn't right to turn up as tourists. Our hearts go out to everyone affected. So we changed plans and flew down to Seville instead. Which meant another flight. You couldn't make it up. The highlight? Pressing the cabin crew call button for the first time in his life.
