There are many different types of photoprotection strategies used by plants, algae and photosynthetic bacteria. One of the fastest mechanisms is the dissipation of excess energy as heat, known as Non-Photochemical Quenching (NPQ). In this video, we will introduce the different components of NPQ and explain some mechanisms in different organisms of the energy quenching component qE.
