Phantom Choreographies Mvmt I - Dance of the Unbecoming

Phantom Choreographies was inspired by the spectral imagery in William Blake’s visionary paintings, encountered during my visit to the Tate Museum in London. This three-movement chamber work explores the liminal space between the seen and unseen, conjuring ghostly tableaux where sound becomes a kinetic form of the supernatural. I. Dance of the Unbecoming opens with a clumsy, menacing stomp—an ancestral peasant dance that morphs into a slow, medieval procession before collapsing into a crude, spectral finale. II. Whispers of Unknown inhabits a haunted stillness. Sparse, breath-like gestures evolve into a fragile dialogue with the unseen, where each note feels like a message from another realm. III. March of Savage Shadows bursts forth with rhythmic force. Ghostly figures parade in a distorted procession, echoing Blake’s darker visions of spiritual struggle and ecstatic revelation. Together, these movements form a sonic canvas—an invitation to witness the choreography of phantoms as they drift through memory, myth, and imagination.
