Ayrosh is a Kenyan singer-songwriter and a leading figure in the “New Age Mugithi” movement, known for his futuristic fusion of traditional Mugithi (rooted in Benga) with Gikuyu folk, Afro-pop, and R&B influences. His philosophy “we the people are architects of our happiness” is reflected in his soulful vocals, eclectic performances, and socially conscious themes inspired by artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Bob Marley, and Papa Wemba. Maheni (Lies), written by Collins Irungu, is a playful yet insightful song that explores urban identity and generational expectations. It humorously portrays how modern couples sometimes fabricate “respectable” narratives claiming they met in church instead of a nightclub to align with conservative parental values, especially those of a devout mother. The song is adapted and arranged by Major Kelvin Kibuthi Nyaga; a seasoned and prolific musician whose works feature state functions and festivals. An alumnus and former Music Director of The Chorale.
