BMW B58 engine explained: open the original 3.0-litre B58B30M0 from the 2015 European BMW 340i and follow how one twin-scroll turbo works with direct injection, Valvetronic, Double VANOS and liquid charge cooling.
Twin scroll means two exhaust approach passages feeding ONE turbine, not two turbos. Follow six pistons, connecting rods, one crankshaft, the four-stroke cycle, variable intake-valve lift, cam phasing, separated exhaust pulses, electrical wastegate, integrated water-to-air charge cooler, rear timing chains and lubrication.
FACTORY SPECIFICATION — selected European launch version
2,998 cc; inline-six; 24 valves; 11.0:1 compression ratio.
240 kW / 326 PS at 5,500–6,500 rpm; 450 Nm at 1,380–5,000 rpm.
326 PS is metric horsepower. Converting 240 kW gives approximately 322 mechanical hp; that conversion is not the separate US 320 hp factory rating. Later B58TU and S58 hardware are outside this film's scope.
CHAPTERS
00:00 Twin scroll. One turbo.
00:28 What the numbers actually describe
01:28 Six cylinders. One connected rhythm.
02:34 Lift and timing are different controls
03:27 Why two exhaust paths matter
04:36 The cooler hidden in the intake
05:24 Air alone cannot make the power
06:19 Close the breathing loop

Original ClueShift teaching film with controlled metallic 3D cutaways, illustrative context images, synthetic Jarnathan narration and original sound design. These are original explanatory reconstructions, not BMW factory CAD, measured simulations or recorded engine footage. Bore/stroke proportion and firing order are retained; rod length, castings, scroll contours, valve windows, timing-chain route and flow speeds are simplified. The valve-lift linkage is functional teaching geometry, not a dimensioned factory assembly. Air, exhaust and liquid paths are separate; flow overlays are not CFD. Sound design is not an actual engine recording.
