A solution is a specific type of uniform mixture comprised of a solute being dissolved within a solvent. These mixtures are defined by several key properties, including microscopic particle size, high stability, and an absence of the Tyndall Effect. Because the components are blended at a molecular level, they cannot be separated through standard filtration, requiring methods like evaporation or distillation instead. Furthermore, while liquid mixtures are the most common, solutions can also exist as gaseous solutions like atmospheric air or solid solutions like metal alloys.
