The Light They Followed: Muhammad ﷺ Through the Eyes of His Companions
A slave at the top of a palm tree who crossed the earth searching for the truth, a slave under a rock in the heat of Mecca saying "One, One", and a man who left all his wealth on the road of the Hijra… why did they follow him? In this episode, which opens the series "Companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ", we see the Messenger of God through the eyes of those who lived with him: trustworthy before prophethood, a husband at home, merciful on the day of Ta'if, forgiving on the day of the Conquest, and simple in his living, dying with his armour pawned… as if he were all of humanity in a single man.

Tell us in the comments, yes or no:
1. Did the people of Mecca call him "al-Amin" before prophethood?
2. Did the Prophet take revenge on the people of Ta'if after they turned him away?
3. Did the Prophet die with his armour pawned to a Jewish man?

🔎 A note on honesty
• "Go, for you are free": the chain of these exact words is weak, so we say "it is reported"; the pardon itself is established, and the name al-Tulaqa is in al-Bukhari.
• Also "reported": Bilal's call to prayer from the roof of the Kaaba on the day of the Conquest.
• The "light" in the verse is the Qur'an according to the commentators, and his character was the Qur'an.
• Comparing his qualities with those of earlier prophets is our own reading, based on "so follow their guidance" (6:90), not a detailed ranking from the texts.
• We do not depict the Prophet or his companions, nor describe his features.
