Samodiva | Когато Гората Пее is inspired by the Samodiva, one of the most striking female figures of Bulgarian folklore.
Samodivi are often described as beautiful, wild and dangerous supernatural women connected with forests, mountains, springs, mist, song and night. They are not simple fairies in the modern sense. In the old stories, they belong to the natural world but stand outside ordinary human life.
A recurring image in these traditions is the night dance of the Samodivi. They move in circles on meadows, clearings or near water, and when morning comes, traces of their dance may remain behind in the grass. To approach them, disturb their place or get drawn into their dance can be dangerous.
This song focuses on that moment:
the moon above the forest,
mist over the ground,
their singing in the dark,
and the warning not to step into the circle.
Rather than telling a story of battle or horror, the piece leans into the strange balance that surrounds the Samodiva in folklore — beauty and danger, invitation and warning, enchantment and loss.
Samodiva | Когато Гората Пее
A song about the forest circle, the night song, and the beings who dance where humans should not follow.
