Atima Cook told Savannah police a man in a black hoodie snatched her Coach purse outside the Dollar Tree on East Gwinnett Street in Savannah, Georgia, on May 16, 2020, with the store's $1,307.26 deposit inside. Six weeks later, the store cameras she said didn't work told a very different story. Bodycam and interview footage from the Savannah Police Department follow the report, the canvass, the K-9 search, and the June 28, 2020 arrest at a Kroger in McAlpin Square on warrants for false report of a crime and false statements. Atima Cook is presumed innocent; we could not find a public record of how the case ended.
