Flying a Vintage Stearman Biplane Over West Virginia | Loops, Rolls & Pure Joy

While in West Virginia for Bridge Day, I got the chance to fly in a vintage Stearman biplane and it was honestly one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in my life. The pilot, Bill from Wild Blue Adventure Company, is a true master of the skies. His knowledge of aviation, his calm energy, and his love for flying made this experience unforgettable. We took off over the New River Gorge, tracing the lines of the famous bridge before Bill kicked it up a notch with loops, barrel rolls, dives, and climbs. I was laughing the whole time, grinning ear to ear, and I can’t recommend this experience enough. Whether you’re after a peaceful scenic ride or a full-blown acrobatic thrill, Bill will tailor it exactly how you want. The Boeing Stearman Model 75 is a two-seat, open-cockpit biplane first built in the 1930s. It became one of the most iconic American trainer aircraft during World War II, teaching thousands of U.S. Army and Navy pilots how to fly before they moved on to fighters and bombers. Known for its rugged construction, powerful radial engine, and unmistakable growl, the Stearman earned a reputation for being both beautifully simple and endlessly durable. After the war, many of these planes were sold as surplus and found new life in barnstorming, crop dusting, and airshows. Today, flying in one feels like stepping straight into aviation history with wind in your face, engine roaring, and nothing but sky all around you.
