A State Crime Lab analyst re-reads a pair of tan pants with new mixture software. On four swabs, inside the waistband and zipper and outside on the zipper and thighs, David Prevatte and Paitin Fields are both included. On cross, asked if "very few" items include them together: "I believe that is a reasonable statement, yes." Paitin Fields was five in November 2017, when she was rushed to the emergency room in Burgaw, North Carolina. Her uncle, David Prevatte, was named a suspect in 2018 and not charged until 2022. The uncle on trial is charged in her death and with other charges, and he is presumed innocent. The State gave notice on Feb. 9 that it will not seek the death penalty, StarNews reported. This is the last block of court on Day 6. Shane Wilcox swabbed the pants for DNA only, with no body-fluid testing. The waistband holds three people: Prevatte, Paitin and Haley Fawcett. On a pink child's blanket, Paitin and her sister Savannah are included and he is excluded. These reports run from June 2021 to May 2022. On cross, the defense raises its own account of the ride to the hospital, and he says he was told of it. He cannot say where on the waistband the DNA was. On the earbuds, he did not take the swab: "I do not believe there was any body fluid testing." --- WATCH WITH JUSTICE 0:00:00 What this video is, and a preview 0:00:15 Intro 0:01:15 to 0:05:12 - Video starts: Court resumes, and Shane Wilcox turns to a pair of tan Dickies pants, swabbed for DNA only at "specific areas" he was asked to swab. 0:05:12 to 0:11:24 - Inside the waistband, all the way around, and inside the fly, "to see if there was any potential transfer of a foreign DNA profile from an individual wearing the pants." 0:11:24 to 0:15:51 - The waistband: David Prevatte, Paitin Fields and Haley Fawcett are included. Inside the zipper: Prevatte and Paitin, with a third part inconclusive. 0:15:51 to 0:24:24 - A rope bracelet with too little DNA. A vacuum filter labeled as from a brown cloth belt: Fawcett and Prevatte included, Paitin excluded. 0:24:24 to 0:33:30 - Asked to swab more of the pants: the outside of the zipper and the thighs. Both swabs include Prevatte and Paitin. "Did you create those holes?" "No." 0:33:30 to 0:46:09 - A pink child's blanket: five areas screen for possible blood, three cuttings. Paitin and her sister Savannah are included. David Prevatte is excluded. 0:46:09 to 0:53:33 - Paitin and Savannah's father, Robert Fields, is the last standard: included on two blanket cuttings, excluded from most other items. Then "masking": one peak, more than one person. 0:53:33 to 0:58:59 - Cross: why the father's DNA? "I do not know the reason why it was submitted." The defense's account of the ride to the hospital: "I was told that information at some point, yes." The waistband was swabbed "as one area." 0:58:59 to 1:04:48 - A belt: Fawcett and Prevatte included, Paitin excluded. The earbuds: he did not take the swab. Asked if "very few" items include both of them together: "I believe that is a reasonable statement, yes." 1:04:48 to 1:08:56 - No redirect. Wilcox is released and the jury is sent home until Monday. The State says its last witness is an out-of-state analyst. CASE BACKGROUND REPORT: https://justiceisaprocess.com/nc-v-da...
