This video is a glimpse into my Melodic Math course. I go over three types of hooking techniques that are frequently used in hit songs:
1. Assonance (rapid repetition of the same vowel sound)
2. Non-lyrical hooks (I call this the "lalala" hook)
3. Cadential tag hooks (using the title of the song at the end of the chorus after building up tension towards it)
This being a melodic math course, most of the examples I give are from songs written by Max Martin, but these techniques are not exclusive to him and are used in numerous hit songs by various artists and songwriters.
