Before long, we started laughing and talking about taking separate vacations. I started singing the chorus: “Separate vacations, separate vacations—you plan yours, and I’ll plan mine.” From there, the rest of the lyrics and the story just fell into place. I love ’70s and ’80s country music. Those are the melodies permanently programmed into my head, so most of the songs I write naturally fall somewhere within that era. Inspired by the storytelling and melodies of ’70s and ’80s country music, the song mixes humor, romance and the realization that the best destination is anywhere they can be together.
