This class, on a physical level, is focused on the psoas muscles and hip flexors in general. When we feel threatened, we tend to contract the hip flexors to draw the knees into the chest, protecting our vulnerable organs. Or, we contract in preparation for fight or flight. We are focused creating an inner sense of safety and freedom so your body can relax—as you soften your vigilance this allows your inner light to shine Connective tissue of the psoas is interconnected with diaphragm (your breathing apparatus), your heart, and the entirety of your autonomic nervous system. When we feel afraid, we tend to tense this muscle which can show up in our hips, lower back, breathing, and emotionally…this can impact our ability to feel safe in the world. I invite you to connect inward in this practice, to be with yourself however you are in this moment, knowing all feelings are welcome here, all of you is welcome here. “yogic philosophy reminds us that we are already whole. We learn to see past illusions and remove obstacles that prevent us from knowing our innate true nature. The practice of yoga allows us to discover our center, the place within that is untouched by the traumatic events of our lives.” Dr. Arielle Schwartz “When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds: Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.” Patanjali “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson ***Waiver: I understand that I am participating in a therapeutic yoga class which includes instruction in physical movements, breath work, and natural vagus nerve stimulation.
