If you’ve never heard of Fiori di Sicilia, let me introduce you to one of my favorite secret baking ingredients! I have been using this magical citrus-vanilla flavoring for over 20 years, and I honestly never want to be without it. The only problem? A replacement bottle is about $30, and while I do think it’s wonderful, I wanted to come up with a budget-friendly homemade version to keep in my pantry for holiday baking and beyond. Today for Money Saving Monday, I’m showing you how I recreated that lovely citrusy, floral, vanilla flavor using vanilla extract plus citrus oils I already had on hand. This flavor is beautiful in: icing and glaze cannoli filling cranberry orange scones biscotti sweet breads cookies and so much more A little goes a very long way, and just a few drops can take something ordinary and make it taste truly special. Homemade Fiori di Sicilia-Style Blend 3/4 cup vanilla extract 1 dram orange oil 1 dram tangerine oil 1/4 teaspoon lemon oil Mix well and store in a clean amber bottle. Let it rest before using if possible, then start with a very small amount—this is powerful stuff! Please note: This is my homemade version inspired by the flavor profile I know and love. It is not the original proprietary formula. I hope you enjoy today’s video! If you’ve ever used Fiori di Sicilia—or if this is brand new to you—let me know in the comments how you would use it! #MoneySavingMonday #FioridiSicilia #DIYExtract #BakingFromScratch #NoreensKitchen Learn how to make your own Fiori di Sicilia flavoring at home for a fraction of the cost of store-bought bottles.
