Before you spend any more money on advertising, ask one question: what happens after someone clicks?
US digital ad revenue hit $294.6 billion in 2025. There are more platforms, more formats and more AI tools than ever. But a bigger ad market doesn’t mean you need a bigger budget, and an ad being shown isn’t the same as an ad being noticed.
In this episode I go through seven things I think every business owner should understand about advertising right now. Deciding the job your advertising needs to do before you pick a platform. Why impressions aren’t attention. Video without the platform panic. Using AI to package your expertise rather than impersonate it. Why being found in search isn’t the same as getting clicked. Running organic content and paid ads as one plan. And checking the page people land on before you increase your budget.
I’ve put the sources for every figure below, with the caveats that go with them, so you can check them yourself.
This channel is the real story of growing a business abroad. I moved my agency from the UK to Denver, and I’m sharing what we’re learning and what we’re still working out along the way.
