Black wealth in America didn't just fail to grow. Again and again, it was burned, blocked, and bulldozed. But that history can't be where the conversation ends.
From Black Wall Street in Tulsa to the 1898 Wilmington coup, from redlining to urban renewal to COINTELPRO, there's a clear pattern: when Black communities built businesses, political power, and independent institutions, they were targeted. Housing, banking, education, and employment discrimination did the rest.
That history is real, and it explains a lot about the Black wealth gap today.
It isn't an excuse, though. In this video I break down both sides: the documented sabotage of Black progress, and the responsibility we still carry to build stronger businesses, families, institutions, and communities right now.
Knowing what happened should make us better at building something they can't tear down.
