A welfare check turns into a police arrest, a courtroom battle, and a shocking outcome as a jury finds William Sheffield NOT GUILTY of both disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
On December 3, 2025, Sergeant Stson of the Cedar Edge Police Department responded to a welfare check involving an 18-year-old young man. What began as a check on the young man's well-being soon escalated into a confrontation with William Sheffield, who was subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
During the trial, the defense questioned the sergeant about the original welfare check, the decision to make an arrest, the use of force, and whether leaving the scene had been an option. The jury also reviewed the body-worn camera footage before reaching its verdict.
The outcome? William Sheffield was found NOT GUILTY of both charges. The court accepted the verdicts, released the bond, vacated the bond conditions, and closed the case.
