How I Built My Backyard Landscape From Nothing

What started as a mostly bare backyard with hard ground and very little going on has slowly turned into one of my favorite parts of the property. In this video, I’m showing the progression from an empty, difficult space to a planted landscape filled with trees, shrubs, conifers, Japanese maples, and other plants I’ve collected and grown over the years. This wasn’t an instant makeover. It came together one section at a time—moving soil, building beds, planting, watering, changing things that didn’t work, and gradually learning what could handle our conditions in the Southern Great Plains. The biggest point of this video is simple: you don’t have to start with a perfect yard, a huge budget, or a professional landscape plan.
