This Japanese Maple TRANSFORMED the Garden | Adding ‘Baldsmith’ Japanese Maple🍁| Amazing Results!

The front garden bed is really starting to come together, and in this episode of Salty Maple we’re continuing its evolution with another round of new plantings—including an Acer Palmatum ‘Baldsmith’ Japanese maple. 🍁 This bed has changed tremendously over the last several weeks, and I’m really happy with the direction it’s heading. In this video, we’ll take a look at some of the newest additions, including White Peaches, Baldsmith, Dwarf Hinoki Cypress, Fire Chief Arborvitae, and several of the other Japanese maples, conifers, and companion plants that are beginning to give this garden some real structure, color, and year-round interest. I’ll also walk through planting the Baldsmith Japanese maple and revisit some of the techniques I use when planting Japanese maples here in Coastal Georgia, especially during our long, hot growing season. It’s now mid-September, but temperatures here in the Deep South can still feel very much like summer. That makes this a good follow-up to my earlier video, “Is It Too Hot to Plant Japanese Maples?”, where I planted an Acer Palmatum Seiryu. Once again, I’ll talk about why I’m comfortable planting during warm weather, how I prepare the planting area, watering considerations, root placement, planting height, and what I’m watching for as the tree begins establishing itself. More than anything, this video is a look at the evolution of the garden. It’s exciting to see the individual plants beginning to work together, and I’m really looking forward to watching this bed mature over the next several years. There’s still more to come, but this one is getting very close to where I envisioned it—and I couldn’t be happier with the progress.
