Module 7
Question 7.1:
Closed-coiled Helical Springs
A spring is compressed to a solid length of 100 mm when a force is applied.
The angle of twist on the coils is 8 degrees when a load is applied.
The diameter of the wire is 10mm and mean diameter of the coil is 80 mm.
G = 80 Gpa
Calculate:
1) The load applied on the spring.
2) The sheer stress in the wire.
3) The strain energy.
4) The stiffness of the coil.
5) The torque in the coil wire.
