The Brazilian Panará tribe at Crystal Valley Week 2026 in Liberec

Glass from the Jizera Mountains travels ten thousand kilometres to become the symbol of a nation that nearly disappeared. Crystal Valley Week, the largest festival of glass, jewellery and costume jewellery, welcomed a special visit from representatives of the Brazilian Panará tribe. They use Czech glass beads to make traditional jewellery and ornaments in the Amazon. For their culture, they are not merely decorative. They form part of their cultural identity and traditional craftsmanship. Outside Liberec Town Hall, visitors to Crystal Valley Week were shown traditional techniques for working with Czech glass beads, which they had acquired during a visit to the Preciosa Ornela production plant.
