Can you still laugh when someone you love has Alzheimer’s? Comedian Dani Klein Modisett couldn’t make her own mother laugh. After decades of performing and teaching comedy, she hired another comedian to try. That decision eventually led her to start Laughter On Call at 54. Dani joins me on The Midlife Edit to talk about caregiving, finding moments of joy during grief, and building a business she never planned on starting. We also talk about being a woman in comedy, using humor at work without undermining yourself, and creating something even when you’re thinking, “Who am I to do this?” One part I keep coming back to: you don’t need the perfect words to visit someone you love. Bring a cookie. Play some music. Spend 20 minutes together. IN THIS EPISODE: • Dani’s path from performer to business owner • Her mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis and the beginning of Laughter On Call • Making room for laughter during difficult times • Showing up when you don’t know what to say • Humor, connection, and women in leadership • Starting a business at 54 • Handling criticism and trusting your creative instincts CONNECT WITH DANI: Laughter On Call: https://www.laughteroncall.com Dani’s website: https://www.kleincomedy.com WATCH DANI’S TEDx TALK: “What My Mother’s Alzheimer’s Taught Me About Laughter”    • What my mother’s Alzheimer’s taught me abo...   CONNECT WITH JEN: Instagram:   / thejenweinstein   Subscribe to The Midlife Edit for conversations about the roles we’ve lived in, the stories we’ve inherited, and what we want to write next.
