Trevi Hills Winery Late Summer Harvest, August 2026.

August 25, 2026, Michal Larranaga, vintner at Trevi Hills Winery in Lakeside, California. Prior to the interview, I joined Trevi residents and picked red grapes in two vineyards. The operation started at 500 am and I participated in another harvest years ago as well. Picking grapes requires no machinery; you're given a bucket, gloves, and a pair of snips. It is all labor-intensive. Volunteers participate, and it is a friendly group of residents. Starting early helps reduce bee attraction and takes advantage of the cooler morning. The grapes are dumped into a large white bin, picked up by a skid loader, and taken to the winery for weighing and processing. Once the grapes are weighed, Michael leads us through the initial winemaking process. The stainless steel production machinery is made in Italy, and the wine is bottled on site.
