Another indoor FPV practice session inside our former socks factory in rural Japan.
This time, I'm concentrating on tight turns combined with steep ascents and descents using the DJI Avata 360, RC Motion 3 controller, and Goggles 3 with head tracking enabled.
My ultimate goal is to fly alongside mountain streams and steep waterfalls, following the water as closely and smoothly as possible without touching it.
The factory's dark, steep staircase and confined spaces around the closets provide a challenging environment to practice these movements.
What I find particularly difficult is keeping the Motion 3's circular pointer aligned with my head movements while turning, climbing, or descending in tight spaces. Small head movements help, but coordinating everything smoothly still takes practice.
There are a few crashes in this session, including light bumps against a wall and some stacked winter tyres. I've noticed that the Avata 360 tends to drop rather quickly after even a minor collision. Turtle Mode would certainly have been useful!
Landing Protection is another limitation. I've submitted a request through the DJI Forum asking for the option to disable it on the Avata 360, as I can on the Avata 2. DJI replied that my suggestion had been forwarded to their development team. Fingers crossed for a future firmware update!
I also accidentally pressed the hover button during the final flight. It's a reminder that maintaining a smooth, uninterrupted flight involves more than just avoiding obstacles.
This is another step in learning to fly slowly and precisely before taking these skills outdoors to mountain streams and waterfalls.
No highlights or crashes edited out. Just the actual practice, mistakes included.
