Herodotus Said It Was More Impressive Than The Pyramids. But Egypt Said A Labyrinth Didn't Exist.

Around 450 BC Herodotus visited a structure in Egypt he said surpassed the pyramids. He counted 3,000 rooms. Five other ancient writers confirmed it. In 2008 a scanning expedition found a massive buried structure at the site 8 to 12 meters underground covering an area the size of ten football fields. Egypt shut the research down citing national security. A ten year NDA on satellite imaging of the site expired in 2025. Four separate scanning missions have now confirmed something large is down there with what appears to be four underground levels and a 40 meter metallic anomaly at the center. On May 7 2026 Egypt officially confirmed new excavations at Hawara. They are digging right now.
