📜 Lyrics
On the shores of Pentos, where the sun sinks in the sea,
a silver rose is blooming where no rose was meant to be.
Dany touched the gown the fat magister had made,
plum silk that ran like water through her fingers, soft as shade.
Hair of silver-gold, the blood of dragons in her veins,
and eyes of deepest violet in a world of fevered chains.
The water steamed and boiled in the magister's copper bath,
yet dragon's blood won't burn, however fierce the water's wrath.
They dressed her like a princess, gold and jewels on every hand,
with amethysts upon her wrists and jasmine, as he planned.
But Viserys is watching, thin of face, with lilac eyes,
promising the throne they lost beneath the western skies.
With a cruel twist of his fingers, he demands she stand up tall:
"Don't you wake the dragon, sister, if you fail me after all!"
"I don't want to be a queen," she begs him in the night,
beneath the silver moonlight, choking on her fright.
"Viserys, please," she whispers, "can't we just go home instead,
to the house in Braavos by the sea, the one with the door of red?"
But her brother roars in fury with a hunger for the crown,
and sells his blood to buy a horde to burn the Usurper down.
And in the Pentos night, beneath a sky of endless stars,
the fate of the last dragon's heir is sealed behind the bars.
A carved and curtained litter cuts its way across the dark
to a manse of wealth and perfume where Illyrio makes his mark;
in a courtyard hung with ivy, sellswords gather in the light,
and the bronze-skinned riders take their places for the night.
Ser Jorah bows before her with the black bear on his chest,
an exile out of Westeros for the law he once transgressed.
Then comes Khal Drogo, towering, a tempest born of war,
his braid uncut, for no one's ever beaten him before;
golden bells upon his braid are ringing as he stands,
and his cold eyes, black as onyx, keep their watch upon the lands.
Viserys whispers poison, with his lips against her ear,
of the army he will buy with her, the conquest drawing near:
"I'd give you to a thousand khals and never shed a tear,
I'd pay in blood and gold
to win my crown back here!"
Dany dries her tears
beneath the magister's eyes,
she straightens up her back
and smiles through her disguise.
The heiress of Valyria
takes up her heavy crown of fate, for Drogo is no bard, and love may have to wait.
But the dragon sleeping in her blood, in grief and gloom,
will wake and burn all Westeros with a roar of doom!
Don't wake the dragon, don't you wake the dragon, no,
the fire's in her blood, and it's waiting there to grow;
don't wake the dragon, for the dragon never dies,
and the fire's burning bright in her violet eyes.
Winter is coming... and winter is humming.
