Older Video I finally got around to uploading from 2023! Previously I had a Weber Workshop Unifilter with a one piece design built in basket (May have sold it to someone involved with Meticulous, who is actually working with Weber interestingly enough!) And I kind of liked it, but it had some stupid design issues I mention in the video which bothered me. But I enjoyed the taste of the built in basket, but for me the basket was way too huge size, and I like more versatility. The Weber Buck (Naked Portafilter) came out and is even cheaper than the Unibasket and I like the design better (mostly) so that seems to be a better choice. I did notice the Rubber padding I really liked on the one piece Unibasket isn't quite as nice on the Buck. NOW We do have more options. I have since sold the BUCK as well. I have a similar lay-flat design portafilter the Canal Hummingbird coming eventually (Hopefully in time for the Meticulous!). Even Normcore now has a similar lay flat design portafilter now which is cheaper than Hummingbird or Weber Buck. I've probably used the 28g basket literally once or twice! It's way too much of an investment risk to use 28g coffee for espresso, the times I've used it I believe due to the deeper basket depth you get less flavour clarity more blended results. I was really enjoying the 16g basket with 16-18g coffee it works well. Coming from Decent or VST precision baskets I Found 'precision or higher extraction' baskets generally are LESS forgiving (vs Basic or stock tapered baskets) and are MORE likely to channel but have a higher POTENTIAL for a really good shot with higher flavour clarity. However with the Weber 16g basket, I was surprised I seemed to be getting consistently good results with higher extraction. It seems nice and forgiving. And I Feel like it does add more punch to the flavours without any negative effects generally like also amplifying acidity or bitterness. I believe it's due to having higher or more even extraction most likely (I don't have the tool for testing coffee extraction %). You definitely NEED to use the paper filters on the bottom with these baskets, like many other thicker high end high extraction baskets, if you don't use the paper the holes get clogged and are pretty difficult to unclog / clean the coffee out of the holes. Eventually with enough holes clogged it would affect the results but a little probably is negligible. I think with paper filter it also makes the pucks easier to knock out. If you want to know more about the ZP6 differences mentioned at the end of the video, I have another video on that.
