The work draws on the Japanese legend of Orihime and Hikoboshi, lovers separated by the Milky Way who may meet only once a year. Brilliant fanfares, flowing melodies and animated rhythmic passages evoke a summer festival and a star-filled sky, while lyrical episodes suggest distance, longing and hope. effective: woodwinds create delicate starlight, brass brings celebratory brilliance, and percussion gives the legend dramatic momentum.
