The son of Isaac and Rebekah and the grandson of Abraham, Jacob was born holding onto his twin brother Esau’s heel and later gained Esau’s birthright and blessing through deception. After fleeing from Esau’s anger, Jacob encountered God in a dream at Bethel, worked for his uncle Laban, and married Leah and Rachel. Over time, Jacob became wealthy and had twelve sons, who became the ancestors of the twelve tribes of Israel. On his journey back home, Jacob wrestled with God and was given the new name Israel, symbolizing his changed relationship with God. Despite his struggles, mistakes, and family conflicts, Jacob’s story shows themes of transformation, faith, and God’s continued promise to Abraham’s descendants. Using BSB Bible translation.
