What does daily life in Japan look like when Mom is away? I’m Shun, a Japanese dad of five, balancing work, cooking, and family life while my wife enjoys an overnight trip with a friend. Join us for a rainy weekday in Japan’s rural Kanto region. The day starts with homemade onigiri rice balls, a pork bento for my oldest son, and breakfast for the younger kids. Then it’s time for school, daycare, and work! After a quick FamilyMart lunch and some grocery shopping, I pick up my youngest son, squeeze in a workout, and make udon for dinner with help from the kids. Between laundry and a late trip to the station, there’s always something left to do—but there are plenty of little family moments along the way. What does a busy weekday look like in your family?
