The launch of the Agroecological Transition and Community Resilience through Neglected and Underutilized Species (AgrEcoNus+) project was one of the key highlights of this year’s National Good Food and Seed Festival, bringing renewed attention to the important role of neglected and underutilized species (NUS) in building resilient, diverse and sustainable food systems in Zimbabwe.
The AgrEcoNus+ project is designed to strengthen agroecological food systems while promoting the conservation, production, consumption and utilization of neglected and underutilized species. These crops and plant species have historically played an important role in local food systems, nutrition and livelihoods, but many remain underutilized despite their potential to contribute to food and nutrition security, climate resilience and household incomes.
