Harpsichord transmutation of the Rondo alla Turca from the Piano Sonata No. 11 in A major, K.331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Bruno Martins is a harpsichordist and contemporary musician based in Paris. The Rondo alla Turca, also known as the Turkish March, is the final movement of Mozart’s Sonata No. 11 and one of his most widely recognized keyboard pieces. Inspired by the “Turkish” style fashionable in late 18th-century Vienna, the movement combines regular rondo form with rhythmic drive and percussive character. Transmutated into the harpsichord, the piece is presented as a study in articulation and contrast, allowing its rhythmic vitality to emerge through clarity of gesture rather than pianistic effects. Transmutation is Bruno Martins’s practice of changing a work’s musical body through the harpsichord, not simply transferring its notes.
