Picture two children on the same Monday morning. One is memorizing dates for a test they'll forget by the weekend. The other is standing in a market in a foreign country, calculating currency in their head and finding the courage to ask a stranger a question in a language they're still learning. On paper, the first child looks like the one "doing well." But which one is actually learning how to move through the world?
I'm Rekha Magon, co-founder of Boundless Life, and in this episode of WorldschoolingTV, I show you what education actually looks like when it's built for the world your children are growing up in, not the one school was designed for a hundred years ago.
Most of us have only ever been given one picture of education: a building, rows of desks, a teacher at the front, a report card at the end. But education and school were never the same thing. School is just one structure we inherited. Education is every experience that helps a child understand themselves, understand other people, and become more capable in the world. And the moment you separate the two, a completely new picture opens up.
When education is designed for the real world, four things shift: place becomes the teacher, real life becomes the curriculum, people become part of the learning, and growth, not grades, becomes the measure.
If you've ever wondered what worldschooling, homeschooling, unschooling, or alternative education can actually look like in practice or how place-based and real-world learning help raise more curious, capable, future-ready kids, this channel is for you.
In this video, I'll cover:
• Why "education" and "school" were never the same thing
• The four shifts that happen when learning is built for the real world
• How place, real life, and people become your child's greatest teachers with lessons from Reggio Emilia, Sugata Mitra's "hole in the wall" experiment, and Kurt Hahn's United World Colleges
• How one ordinary family from Nebraska watched their kids transform
• The World-as-Classroom Lens: a simple tool to turn any everyday place into real learning this week
👇 Tell me in the comments: when was the last time your child learned something outside a classroom that genuinely stayed with them?
