Getting your motorhome ready for winter properly can help prevent frost damage, flat batteries, damp, mould and some very expensive repairs.
In this video, I take you through the practical steps we use to prepare our own motorhome for the colder months — from draining the water system and protecting the taps and water heater, to looking after the batteries, tyres, fridge, gas system and interior.
I also explain why simply starting your motorhome and leaving the engine idling isn’t necessarily the best way to look after it during winter storage.
With over 40 years working in the motor trade, more than 20 years working on leisure vehicles and over 10 years owning our own motorhome, I’m sharing the practical checks and precautions I use myself.
Whether your motorhome is being stored for the whole winter or simply won’t be used as often during the colder months, this guide should help you get it ready and avoid problems when it’s time to get back on the road.
🔧 IN THIS VIDEO:
• Draining the fresh and waste water systems
• Protecting taps, pipes and the water heater from frost
• Looking after your leisure and starter batteries
• Motorhome tyre care during storage
• Preventing damp and mould
• Fridge and interior preparation
• Gas system checks
• Why leaving your engine idling isn’t the answer
• Simple winter storage checks
Always follow the instructions and winter-storage recommendations for your particular motorhome, appliances and base vehicle.
If you’ve got a winter motorhome tip that I’ve missed, leave it in the comments — it could help another motorhome owner.
Thanks for watching.
