On 25 of April 1986 Peter promoted his new release - an album named 'Skin'. Earlier this year he had played 2 songs with John Ellis at 'Hammersmith Odeon' opening/supporting for Marilion at the "Anti-Heroin" Gig in February. Also at some point he did session for VPRO radio at Amsterdam that broadcasted twice in early April. But the latest proper gig was back in July of 1985 where he had played at Mersea Island WOMAD fest (accompanied by just Guy Evans drumming along, which is one of my fav PH shows btw). And before that he was touring Canada/USA in April '85, and Europe since late February till end of March '85 completely ignoring England for some reason. So the previous proper gig on english soil happened back in December '84 (although PH did very few concerts for that whole year itself). After year and a half of absence finally he did the concert for the fellow englishmen. To promote the new 'Skin' release he invited all the K-Group mates, plus David Jackson and Dave Coulter, a multi-instrumentalist who was usually specializing on supporting acts using various niche instruments (f.e. didjeridu on the 'Skin' album itself). The presense of Jackson and Coulter (who played mainly accordion - or maybe a harmonium, sometimes it is hard to tell - mandolin and shaker, made it sound less like a K-Group, but made it very unique with arrangements to 'Ophelia', 'After The Show' and 'Been Alone So Long', so this one surely does sound refreshing. The whole second set gives me great feeling as to 'what if Peter had proper support for longer' cos after his idea of having K-Group went off, he was touring solo for a long time, sometimes occasionally being accompanied by 1 or 2 friends, but this maybe is the only one when it felt really 'big' and surely has it's own charm. Original tape was a little bit muddy, but it was a pleasure to work on this. The only thing that got me unsatisfied is that I've learned I was doing my remasters quite wrong for quite a long time already cos I've messed up some audio settings. This caused me setting both trebles and bass way too much trying to get through the muffed settings and now after I've set them to default I've learned that I need to add some mids to the strong 'basses and trebles' base I've made. This caused several defects to get back again (some minor cracks, tech buzz), but trust me -- it is still better than origs. I will attach them for you to make your own version if anyone would like to. Peter played here 5 songs from the 'Skin', including 'Now Lover'. After this one he went touring at USA, where he tried to play 'Now Lover' at the 1st of those concerts, but for some reason got disappointed and never performed this song ever since. But he added the 'Skin' song itself to his repertoire, and played it quite often. Looking at the past, seems like connection between Dave Coulter and PH was a brief one, besides it is believed that Dave introduced Sarah Jane-Morris to PH who later became part of 'Usher' opera thingy. Guy Evans never played drums on PH live shows (unless some avangarde imrpovisations while promoting 'Spur Of The Moment' twice in 1988) until 1996 Union Chapel concert (which honestly is also experimental and recorded within awful acoustics of the actual church), only rejoining for the VDGG reunion. John Ellis had toured with PH in 1989 and played on his albums (last of them is 'The Noise' from 1992), Nic Potter also had played with PH for 1990 'Room Temperature' tour with Stuart Gordon or short lived 1992 'The Band' with PH, Stuart Gordon and David Lord and 1993 'The Noise Band' tour with Manny Elias added instead of David Lord. As one of commenters on my channel added, initially Nic was supposed to continue in 1994, but asked to have security, which Peter couldn't afford. That's why David Jackson replaced Nick forming 'The Quartet' thingy for 1994-96, and he collaborated with PH on his albums and few live shows untill he got bored with VDGG reunion and left in late 2005, not willing to tour exsessively again (or due to some other reasons too - it is still unclear)...
