A brand new restoration begins: our StuG III Ausf B, an early war assault gun from the first generation of StuGs. We start with a look back at the parts in Europe with Dmitry, who has sourced one of the most complete restoration packages we’ve ever acquired, right down to a complete gun. Radiators copied from originals, a fully restored driver’s seat, track and running gear in great condition, and a firing safety system where the loader signals the gunner with a red lamp so nobody loses a hand. Compared to Beau’s last StuG, which was completely blown apart, this one should go together much more easily. The original hydraulic steering, though, is going to be a challenge. The parts arrived in 2024, cleared a month of quarantine, and have been waiting patiently ever since. Now, with the KV-1S as finished as we can make it for the time being, it’s time to move the project into Beau’s empty workshop. That means shuffling the Panzer 38(t), lifting and lining up the superstructure, discovering it won’t fit through the door side-on, and bringing it in on the truck instead. Then Beau walks through just how different the Ausf B is from the StuG III G we restored. Bolt-on tow hooks instead of integrated ones, 50mm frontal armour with no add-on plate, a 30mm rear plate, a different hull and hatch design, and hydraulic steering where the only mechanical linkage up front is the parking brake. Plus why the return roller mounts lean downwards: the fix for tracks jumping off the sprockets on the Ausf A. 📺 The StuG III G restoration from start to finish:    • StuG III G Restoration | The Complete Feat...   📺 Where we left the KV-1S:    • KV-1S: Finished? | Workshop Wednesday   🎟️ AusArmourfest 2027 tickets are LIVE!
