In 2020 his wife volunteered to go to New York and work the pandemic. He was home playing Call of Duty. Watching her do something meaningful is what changed everything. Dr. Kahlil Permenter, Dr. Perm, is a chiropractor, Air Force veteran and cofounder of Right Spot Wellness in Roseville, an integrative care clinic he runs alongside his wife, nurse practitioner Felicia Permenter. He is one of only five Black chiropractors in Minnesota, and he got there, in his words, through "ignorance, willpower and dumb luck." On this episode of The Mindshift Experience Podcast, Brayshaun Gibson and Ricky Collins sit down with Dr. Perm to talk about how getting comfortable almost cost him his purpose, why he left established clinics to build his own, what it really costs your health to run a business, and why the woman he has been with since seventh grade deserves the credit. The line that hit hardest: "I am not a businessman. I'm becoming a businessman." What they get into: → The pandemic moment that made him want to do something meaningful → Why being comfortable is the most dangerous place to be → Leaving clinics where he did not fit the mold, and attracting who you are → From mobile massage in Minneapolis schools to a full integrative clinic → Chiropractic, cupping, IV therapy, acupuncture and why it all works together → Your health is not a 9 to 5, it is all day long → Physical, mental and spiritual health do not exist in a vacuum → Married since young, working together, and giving each other grace and space → The 30 pound toll of year one in business → Why a cash based clinic has to make you want to come back → What it means to see Black men taking care of their health If you have been comfortable for too long, this is your sign. ⏱ CHAPTERS 00:00 "I've never been touched like that" 01:19 Right Spot Wellness 01:30 One of five Black chiropractors in Minnesota 01:43 Ignorance, willpower and dumb luck 01:53 The wife behind the work 02:29 Air Force, degrees and getting comfortable 03:30 She went to New York.
