FRGCB presents a video accompaniment to the comparison of The Great Escape, originally published for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in 1986 by Ocean Software, followed by Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, Enterprise 128 and IBM-PC compatibles the same year. An unofficial conversion for the 8-bit Atari computers was released to public domain in 2015. All footage has been recorded using emulators. Footage for the Enterprise version is unavailable due to emulation-related difficulties, but can be found elsewhere on YouTube. For this reason, the Enterprise version was also largely excluded from the actual comparison, which is linked below. Also, the IBM-PC version can be difficult to get to play at the correct original speed with DOSbox, when you have no real sense of how the game was to play on a PC in 1986, but I should mention, that when playing on DOSbox, the speed is highly adjustable, and the footage shown in this video is an approximation. Timecodes for all versions: 00:07 - Sinclair ZX Spectrum 04:52 - Amstrad CPC 08:07 - Commodore 64 12:25 - IBM-PC compatibles 16:16 - Atari 400/800 The comparison entry at the Finnish Retro Game Comparison Blog: https://frgcb.blogspot.com/2025/10/th...
