Training Young Sled Dogs | Learning Turn Commands in Swedish Lapland ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In this video we’re training Wakanda & Maud’dib, two of our one-year-old Alaskan Huskies, alongside their 10-year-old father, Truman. Together with Pan and Argos (also bro's), who are also brothers. The team is completed by the lovely Miss Fox. Today’s focus is on teaching the young dogs to respond confidently to left and right turn commands while working as part of a sled dog team. You’ll notice that I was late calling a couple of the turns during this training session. That was my mistake. Even after many years of mushing, nobody gets every training run perfect. What impressed me most was how the young dogs responded. Instead of becoming confused, they watched the experienced dogs, read the trail and worked out the correct route. That’s exactly why we train youngsters alongside older, experienced dogs. Building confidence, teamwork and decision-making is just as important as teaching the commands themselves. We did go wrong a few times but each time was nicely corrected.
