-- Disclaimer at the end of the video --
Developed and published by LucasArts in 1995, The Dig is a point-and-click adventure game, which unlike others at the time, didn't quite use cinematic aid. Instead, the game is entirely made up with more traditional animation techniques to keep a consistent aesthetic throughout the entire game. Those that used cinematic aid, oftentimes have a visual gap between the actual gameplay and the video segments (except for Double Switch which is entirely done with cinematic clips).
The Dig became a huge success, and is now considered a classical jewel, comparable with titles like Monkey's Island. During this era LucasArts also released Full Throttle, a similar gameplay but a different story, which had the same effect as The Dig.
The Dig is what you would call today a visual novel, that tells the events that happened to commander Boston Low and its crew, after they are sent on a mission to divert an incoming asteroid that could destroy Earth. Even though the plot here is in part similar to that Armageddon film, The Dig is far more better in its plot, with a great variety of elements at play, because obviously, when they arrive at the asteroid to begin their mission, things weren't as they predicted.
The Dig got a remake in recent years, alongside other classic titles from LucasArts and other developers. So you can purchase a copy of the game for modern platforms and rejoice in one of the classics.
The demo here is just a trailer. And for some reason, the audio is quite bad, apologies for it, I have no idea how it happened. I'm not sure if the audio quality is bad just because it's Windows 95 stuff, or because I made a mistake somewhere.
Enjoy!
