The music has gone home. He stays a little longer. An empty ballroom. One last candle. The traces of everyone who laughed, loved and danced here before morning came. Lodur has lived long enough to know that beautiful things end. He has never learned how to leave them behind. THE ROOM AFTER — Lodur From TRY AGAIN, DARLING. Morning presses pale against the windows, turning gold to blue. Someone left a glass beside the piano, a ribbon on the floor. The doors are open to an empty hallway. No one’s dancing anymore. An hour ago this room was endless. The night had nowhere else to go. Funny how a place can hold such happiness and lose it all so quietly. [Chorus] I always loved the room after, when the music has gone home, when happiness leaves traces but refuses to stay. There’s something almost honest in the silence that remains. Nothing beautiful is promised to survive the day. [Verse 2] I remember how you all looked before the night became a memory. No one watching from the doorway would have guessed how brief it had to be. You believed the song would keep on playing. Perhaps that is the only way to dance— to move as though the morning were a rumor, as though joy were more than chance. I used to think that knowing endings made the ending easier to bear. It doesn’t. You simply learn to recognize the moment before something is no longer there. [Chorus] And then comes the room after, with the curtains breathing slow, with the echo of a melody still hiding in the walls. For a little while the silence almost sounds like everyone who laughed here, who loved here, who thought the night was young. [Verse 3] There are stains the servants will remove by noon, flowers they will throw away. By evening someone else will light the candles and nothing here will say that you stood barefoot by the window, that somebody kissed beneath the stairs, that for a handful of impossible hours everyone belonged somewhere. Perhaps that is why I stay behind them. Not to mourn. Not quite. Just to stand inside the fading warmth before the world puts everything right. [Bridge] Mortals are very good at leaving. You practice all your lives. A door closes, footsteps disappear, and somehow you know how to keep walking. I have never learned that part. I only learned how to remain. [Final Chorus] So leave me the room after. Leave one candle burning low. Leave the chairs where you abandoned them, the windows open to the cold. I don’t need the night returned to me. I know better than to ask. I only want a little longer with the shape of what has passed. Because happiness is never in the promise it will stay. Maybe it was beautiful because it went away. [Outro] The sun reaches the piano. The last candle dies. And for one moment the room is only a room again. I close the door behind me. #Lodur #DarkFantasyRock #DarkFantasyMusic
