3 4WDS FLOODED - 1 DOESN’T MAKE IT... Cape York river crossings cause carnage!

A near-vertical 2.5m drop into Gunshot Creek, then quicksand mud that swallows a 36-year-old ex-army Land Rover Perentie. Jock McDonald and Jesse Gleeson take on the northern Old Telegraph Track. They're the first crew through for the season, which sounds great until you're standing at the bottom of the drop looking at an exit nobody has driven yet - just mulch, silt and sand that grabs everything that touches it. Jock McDonald pins the Perentie off the drop and sinks to the chassis rails, and it takes two winches, a double line pull and the shovels off the bonnet to break the suction. Then it's Jesse Gleeson's BMW M57-converted GU Patrol, Liv's Isuzu D-MAX from Performance Tourers, Justin's Land Rover from 4WDetail and Josh's Ford Ranger with the T.C Boxes canopy, one at a time, into the same hole. North of there the water gets serious. The crew swim Twin Falls, then the Ranger throws a battery light and the alternator gives up in the middle of nowhere - no charging, no rear locker, no winch, and a modern rig that throws itself into park with the electronic handbrake on every time the voltage drops. What follows is a battery-swapping relay off Liv's 140-amp setup, an Oricom jump starter, thermo fans that won't regulate, and a very slow limp into camp for a camp oven roast lamb. This is the next leg of the Cape run and it picks up exactly where the last episode left off. Then comes the pointy end of the Tele: Cannibal Creek, the sketchy log bridge at Cypress Creek, Logans Creek deeper than it has been in years, and finally Nolans Brook at 8psi on Kumho Road Venture MT-71s, where the Perentie sinks to the bottom and drives it like a submarine. Two rigs float on the way through.
