Stepping out of a jeep onto savannah in Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park was an unfamiliar experience. This is not the kind of environment to go trekking in. Our armed guide said that I "wouldn't last ten minutes" if I just wandered off with map and compass in hand. That advice was driven home to me over our six-day safari in two camps at opposite ends of the National Park. There are so many beautiful wild animals here that could kill you in seconds - lions, leopards, hyenas, hippos and elephants - and they all look so deceptively tame. From the safety of a Toyota jeep with no sides or windows, we wandered down sandy roads searching for a sight of the "Big Five" (lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalos). You'll have to see the video to find out how many we encountered. A typical day started at 5AM with breakfast followed by a six-hour drive, occasionally mixed with a walk through the bush tracking lions and elephants. We returned to camp for lunch at 12:30 and siesta during the extreme heat. I always preferred the late afternoon and evening excursions from 4PM to 7PM because that was when most of the action seemed to occur and because, inevitably, we would drop by a waterhole for gin and tonic at sunset. Here's my film about our safari in Zimbabwe knitted together from short clips taken on my smartphone: . Please don't forget to like and/or subscribe. Also, if you have any handy tips or feedback about my videos, please leave a comment - it will help me keep on the right track if, indeed, I am on it. #safari #twojourneys #zimbabwe #hwange #somalisa #hwangebushcamp #nature #lions #elephants
