#RoboCopArcade #RetroGaming #ArcadeLife Full Playthrough – RoboCop (1988, Data East) I really thought I’d like this one more. Then I started playing it and remembered exactly why I didn’t dump that many quarters into it back in 1988—even though I loved RoboCop as much as Star Wars at the time. It’s that kind of IP. But this game? Absolute quarter shredder. Fast-paced? Sure. But you die constantly. There's no illusion of progress—just punishment. The best arcade games let you think you're doing okay for a minute. RoboCop just beats your ass with the same brick, over and over. It’s not totally without merit. It’s just... flat. The gameplay gets repetitive fast, and the bosses? Lazy. You’d think with the license they had, they’d go nuts. Instead, it’s ED-209 and a rotating cast of construction equipment. Everything fits the RoboCop world, sure—but it's a video game. They could’ve had fun with it. They didn’t. And the ending? Abrupt. Anti-climactic. Like the devs hit a deadline and just said, “Yeah, that’s enough.” Now, they did put real effort into the music and voice samples—those were big for 1988. And I get why it was popular when it came out. The presentation was ahead of its time. But honestly, this playthrough reminded me why I didn’t bother with it much in the arcade. It’s got moments, but no surprises. Solid 5 out of 10. That’s me being nice. Oh—and if you were wondering: yes, this game was huge in 1988. It was a top earner in Japan and Hong Kong, and you couldn’t walk past a machine without hearing “Your move, creep.” It did the job. It just didn’t age as well as some of its neighbors. #ClassicGames #GamingNostalgia #OldSchoolGaming #CoinOp #GamersOfTikTok #GamersOfInstagram #DataEast #RPtv #RoboCopGame #ArcadeObscura #QuarterHog
