It was actually dedicated to Hercules, and it is the oldest marble building in Rome that still mostly stands. Around the corner is the Mouth of Truth, a marble face that legend says bites off the hand of any liar. (16 minutes in) • Two giant ships of the Roman emperor Caligula lay at the bottom of this lake for almost 1,900 years; the larger was about 73 meters (240 feet) long, a floating palace. In 1928 Mussolini had the lake pumped dry to bring them up. In 1944, during World War II, both ships burned in a single night. (32 minutes in) Good company for daydreaming, working and studying. 🎼 Music by Vivaldi • Mendelssohn • Bach • Mozart • Berlioz 🎨 Paintings by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot • Carl Götzloff • Carl Morgenstern • Gustaf Wilhelm Palm • Carl Blechen • Joseph Wright of Derby • and others 🎵 Chapters 00:00 The Four Seasons: Spring, RV 269: I.
