The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important maritime chokepoints in the world. A narrow passage between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, carrying enormous volumes of oil, natural gas, and international trade.
In this documentary, we explain why the Strait of Hormuz matters so much, how tanker traffic moves through this narrow waterway, and what could happen if shipping were disrupted.
We also examine the idea of building a canal through Oman to create an alternative route around the Strait of Hormuz. Could such a massive project cross mountains and connect the Gulf with the open ocean? What would it cost, and would ports, pipelines, storage terminals, and railways be a more realistic solution?
This cinematic documentary explores geography, engineering, energy security, global shipping, and the future of one of the world’s most strategic waterways.
