On the 22nd of September, 2026, a sound rolled down from the Laurentian hills above Mirabel, Quebec, and two men in folding chairs began to weep. Those men had been machinist apprentices at Avro in 1958. The aircraft they once helped build was cancelled in a single afternoon and cut apart with torches in the factory yard. That silence lasted nearly 70 years, and now it has ended. This is the real story of Canada's first supersonic combat jet prototype, designed and built in Montreal and flown from Mirabel, Quebec: the cancellation of the Avro Arrow on Black Friday in 1959 and the destruction of its engineering drawings, the decade-by-decade erosion of Canadian aerospace as de Havilland was sold to Boeing and the C Series became the Airbus A220, the spring 2023 launch of the Boreal program by a Montreal-led team, Sweden joining in May 2025 and Australia following, the engine built for electricity first at Pratt and Whitney Canada in Longueuil, the sensor suite assembled in Ottawa by former Nortel telecommunications engineers, internal weapons integration at Defence Research and Development Canada in Valcartier, the $9 billion Gripen assembly contract at Mirabel signed in March 2026, the formation of Northwing in Ottawa in the summer of 2026, and the supersonic prototype flight on the 22nd of September, 2026. Then we look at the Zurakowski configuration, an imagined full-production Boreal carrying every system already proven across this country. Can Canada design, build, and fly its own combat jet faster than the aerospace giants of the world expected? And if the 70-year rule is gone, what does that mean for the industry across the border? Note: some scenes are dramatised reconstructions, and the Zurakowski configuration is an imagined concept created for this video. It is not a real aircraft and no company is building it. Dates, figures, people and quotes about real companies, labs and governments come from public sources, including Pratt and Whitney Canada, Defence Research and Development Canada, Magellan Aerospace, CMC Electronics, and Lockheed Martin. #Canada #Aviation #Mirabel #CanadaRebuilt
